Austin's been known for quoting movies and TV shows. Tonight he said to me, "I gotta get a little quiet time with you." He said he got it from Meet the Robinsons.

The Color Guard presented the flag at my graduation and they did their march thing with their guns, etc. This made quite an impression on Austin. The next morning he came marching out of my parent's room (where he had spent the night) holding his "army" gun just as they had, elbows out and all.

My mom told him there was a soldier that lived in town and he asked to go see him. Mom said he was sleeping and Austin said, "Soldiers don't sleep, silly."

Chadron Trip

Before my graduation ceremony in Chadron, Mom, Dad, Celeste, and Austin went to Wal-Mart. Celeste decided to stay in the car since she wasn't feeling well, and Austin said, "I'm just gonna stay here and take care of Ces."

Mom told him to come with them and he replied, "Bout I really like to take care of people."

Mom got him to go inside by telling him they would look for a stethoscope. (Nice Mom.) When they went back to the car, he said to Celeste, "We couldn't find a telescope Ces."

Mom didn't find what she was looking for in Wal-Mart so they decided to go to Dollar General. She told Austin that he could stay in the car with Celeste because they were going to a store for grandmas. "Ugh, that is isn't a store for grandmas, that's Dollar General!"

When they got back in the car Austin asked, "Are we going back to the graduation where my mom gets her education?"

We're so lucky to have such a smart and caring boy!

Bluntness

Austin walked in to my parent's the other day and said, "I gotta poop. Can I borrow your bathroom?" Uh, sure...if you give it back. :)

Online Shopping

I was browsing clearance sections in some online stores and Austin was telling me what he liked, most of which we didn't agree on. Then again, what's the point of buying something for him that I like when he doesn't? It's a constant battle to get him to wear it so I might as well buy the things he likes. Lesson learned (or in the process of being learned.)

I was looking at some things for me and I found a cute dress (or so I thought) and asked Austin what he thought.

"Um...I think that's maybe ugly. Maybe you should buy a different one."

Who would have thought I'd be getting fashion advice from a 4-yr-old boy? Oh the lovely life of mommyhood.

Dag Nabbit

Sorry folks. It's been over a month since I've updated! Let me assure you it's NOT because Austin hasn't said or done anything funny! His newest thing is saying "dag nabbit" when he's mad about something. Apparently he got it from the Backyardigans.

Octagon

We were at Alco the other day and Austin said, "Mom, can we go and see a octagon?" I asked him what he was talking about. He replied, "Ya know, a stop sign."

The Flag Salute

Babysitting Prohibited

Austin often comes home from preschool with a letter about the day. They ask each child what they did and then write it down using their exact wording. One day Austin said, "I played house. I put the babies in the fridge."

Note to self: Don't leave Austin alone with Tayvin.

Sibling Love

Tayvin adores Austin and is always wanting to be around him. Austin on the other hand, is not quite as fond of his sister as she is of him. He gets upset when she touches his toys and changes the channel on TV, etc.

The other day she was climbing on him and he was whining, "Mom, get her off of me." But as soon as she was down she started all over again. Austin finally said, "Ugh! Can you just put her back in your tummy?"

Singing

My mom has been reading Austin the story of the three little pigs.

Celeste, Mom, Grandma J and I were playing a card game. Austin was at the table stacking blocks, and Mom would play with him when it wasn't her turn. They were pretending to build houses, and then mom would sing the song, "I build my house of bricks" (straw, sticks, you get the idea.) Austin built another "house" and was waiting for Mom to start singing the song but it was her turn. He looked at her and said, "SING IT, PIG!"

Okay, you probably had to be there, but we got a good laugh out of it.

Jack & Jill

"Jack and Jill

Scared

We were sitting on the couch and Jeff unexpectedly roared at Austin and scared him. Austin jumped and said very softly, "Whoa, you scared the crap outta me."

OK, so it's probably not the most appropriate thing to say, but it was darn funny.

Falling Behind

Sorry folks, I've fallen a bit behind on this. Austin has been making us laugh so much lately with his spunky wit and personality. Everything that comes out of his mouth is a riot. It's been the most amazing blessing to see him blossom as the seizures have stopped. We have our little boy back! Of course my mind is a blank, and I can only remember one specific funny. I'll try to do better in the future.

Every night we thank God for another seizure-free day, and pray for more to come. One night after the amen, he asked me, "Am I seizure-free, or seizure-four?"

Hahaha, get it? Seizure-THree (talk of a 4-year-old.) I laughed. He has since asked many more times, as apparently I haven't found a way to explain it so he understands what I'm talking about. Oh well, I don't really care if he completely understands, as long as he remains seizure-free!

Oh, I just remembered another thing. The other day I "sang" to him, "You need a haircut," in my own little tune. He matched it perfectly with "No I don't." Do I sense a musician in the making? That's pretty talented of him to be able to match my pitches exactly if I may say so myself.

Take it to the dump!

Wow. How far technology has come. Jeff and I both have laptops, so that's what Austin's used to. We were at my folks the other day and Austin went into their office, which has an old desktop computer. Austin said to my dad, "Bunka, that computer is junk, you need to take it to the dump!" Actually, it's in good working order, but it's funny how young children know so much about technology.

Celeste's "House"

The kids and I went to visit Celeste in Lincoln. It was the first time we've been there to see her. Celeste is living in the dorms at UNL. When we got there she came down to meet us. As we were walking in, Austin said, "Wow. Your house is big!" Later, we were waiting in the car in front of the dorms, and Austin asked, "How are those people going into Celeste's house?" I don't think he quite understands it's not just her house. :)

Whole Grams & Eggy Pizza

Austin's really starting to understand the diet better. The first time we went to the store, he kept asking for things he couldn't have. On day 3 of the diet, we went to the store and I couldn't believe how good he was being! He sees me read labels on EVERYTHING. He would take things off the shelf and ask, "How many whole grams is this?" That's his new thing now. Bless his heart.

I made "pizza" with crust made of eggs, cream cheese, and mozzarella. When we sat down to eat Jeff looked at it and asked if the crust was made from eggs. He said it looked like it should be a breaskfast casserole. He actually ended up really liking it. Austin liked it, too. The next day, I asked him if he wanted pizza for lunch. He said, "Ya, but I want real pizza, not eggy pizza." How observant. He must have been listening to Jeff, because the eggs weren't even noticeable.

Four Sensors of the Rear

We have a Barney video about the four seasons. A child says, "Winter, spring, summer, and fall, those are the four seasons of the year."

Austin replied, "Yep, the four sensors of the rear."

Well...not exactly.

Chainsaw

Yet another waking up story. A few weeks ago, Austin turned to me one early morning and said, "Mom, I want a chainsaw, can you get me a chainsaw?" I shrugged it off, as he's been saying crazy random things when he wakes up. But this time, it stuck through the day. Before I left for school in the afternoon, he gave me $1 in play money and told me to use it to buy him a chainsaw. How funny! Wal-Mart didn't have any. I checked Target in Scottsbluff, no luck. I finally found one at K-Mart. He was so excited. FYI, if you want a toy tool, you can find it at K-Mart!

Nasty Little Pigs

Another waking up story. During his(our) nap, Austin rolled over and said to me, "Those nastly little pigs!" What in the world? "And that's the story of those nasty little pigs." Wonder what he was dreaming about. :)

Web Cam

My dad just set us up with a web cam so Celeste could see and talk to the kids. Before the camera was connected, we were talking to her through the computer. Austin was a bit confused since he couldn't see her. (He hasn't grasped the phone concept either. He always tries to show people things through the phone.) "Can you come out of the computer?" As if she's going to jump out or something. :) After the camera was hooked up and he saw her he got really excited. "YOU GOT OUT!" It was the funniest thing!

Presents

Jeff & Austin went to McCook the other day and Austin got a gun from Wal-Mart. That's all he needs, right? ANOTHER GUN! My parents were in Lincoln for the weekend and Austin wanted to know what they were going to bring him when they came home. Expectations. He talked about "his surprise" all weekend. Getting a new gun and expecting another present must have put him in the mood, because he said he wanted me to buy him another gun. After I told him he should be thankful for just getting a new gun, he asked, "Can't it be Christmas or happy birthday?" I asked when his birthday was, "Nobember twenty-second."
"Good, which is just around the corner."
"Well I want my birthday to be Peptember eight." It was the 14th that day. Where in the heck did he come up with that? How funny.

Amusingly, my mom went and pulled a toy sword out of her toy closet to give Austin. Yes, he had played with it before at her house, but they have so many toys for him. He was SO excited and absolutely loved it. When he showed them his new gun, he said it was "twenty bucks." No, it wasn't that much, but it makes ya wonder what's going on in that little head of his.

Two Gooses

Today, Austin pointed at two birds on a telephone wire and said, "Look Mom, there's two gooses." Okay, they weren't gooses, or geese for that matter, but that's beyond the point. Kids are SO smart!! It blows my mind how they can relate words and justify what they're saying! Isn't it incredible? "No, not geese, gooses."

We Are Family

Austin has been saying the craziest things when he wakes up in the morning. I'd post them but it's impossible to know what he's even saying. I'm pretty sure he's still sleeping when he says them.

I went to check on him today during his nap, and was surprised to see him sitting up in bed. I said something to him, and he looked at me with a surprised look and said, "OH! I was lost."

"You were?" I said as I gave him a hug. He seemed a bit confused. I think he was still waking up. He then said, "We are family."

"Yes, we are family," I replied, wondering where that came from??? He looked at me and said, "I love you, Mom. We are family." He wrapped his arms around me and gave me a kiss.

"I love you, Austin."

HOW RANDOM. What a funny boy. What will he come up with next?

I-space

Jeff and I both have myspace accounts. Tonight, we were both on our computers and Austin came in with a book (the Bible to be exact), and said, "Mom, check out my i-space." He was pretty proud of it.

Flip Flops

Austin put a pair of my flip flops on the other day, and now they are no longer mine. He wants to wear them everywhere, and I'm not allowed to wear them because they're his. We couldn't find one of them today, so I found an old pair of flip flops and said he could have them. He wasn't too excited at first, but then he looked at them and said, "Yes, these will work." He put them on and said, "PERFECT!" Like they actually fit or something. It got a good chuckle outta me. What a silly boy!
